Mary Hemingway is a graphic designer and founder and creative director of platform Design by Women. She specialises in creating impactful brand identities and editorial design for creative agencies, individual brands and public sector organisations.
Mary’s early career began in surface pattern and textile design, she then re-trained to become a graphic designer and illustrator. Combining her experience of working with colour and pattern with skills in branding, typography and layout means that she has a unique visual approach and brings a wide of range skills to every project.
Design By Women
Mary is also founder of designby-women.com a platform which aims to celebrate, showcase, and inspire women, marginalised genders and gender non-conforming creatives currently working in the design industry.
After noticing how few women were celebrated in the design world at events and award ceremonies, she started DesignbyWomen in June 2020, as a self-initiated lock-down project. Through celebrating work and sharing insights and stories, Mary hopes to encourage collaboration, provide visibility and greater inclusion for women creatives at all stages in their careers.
